Sept. 4 marks opening of new center designed to facilitate a more collaborative U of M clinical research process

The Clinical Research Support Center, a partnership among the University of Minnesota’s primary clinical research service groups, is slated to officially open its doors Sept. 4 to help U of M investigators and study teams more efficiently navigate the complex clinical research environment and advance research projects through the process more quickly.

A developing center

The CRSC is a collaboration between the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Clinical and Translational Science InstituteFairview Health Services, and University of Minnesota Physicians, and brings together content experts from more than 20 functional service groups in a single location to provide a new, cross-functional, team-based approach to guide and support clinical researchers and study teams.

“The CRSC aims to reduce study start-up to first accrual timelines by assisting researchers and study teams in working through clinical research administrative tasks like budgets, contracts and regulatory approvals in parallel across the four entities,” said Dr. Tim Schacker, director of CTSI’s Clinical Translational Research Services team and CTSI’s executive lead for the CRSC.

Staff across more than 20 functional clinical research service groups worked with investigators over the summer to pilot processes and workflows, which were initially informed by the work of more than 140 individuals across the U of M clinical research community, including faculty, research-related and administrative staff. The CRSC is supported by institutional leadership and a steering committee.

Celebrating the opening

An Open House is slated for 2-4pm, Sept. 4 in 330 Diehl Hall (Biomedical Library) to celebrate the grand opening. Stop by to enjoy refreshments and learn more about the support and resources available to U of M clinical researchers and study teams through the CRSC.
