CTSI is excited to launch a new web-based training tool for University of Minnesota clinical research professionals who work with human participants, and their supervisors.
The Human Research Training website is a free, easy-to-use tool to help identify and maintain the appropriate training, certification, credentials, and immunizations needed to perform University of Minnesota research with human participants. The tool does not replace any existing tool; it simply makes it easier to view required and optional training to perform research work with human participants and track compliance.
“Previously there wasn’t a systematic way to identify what research training was necessary or a system to track and maintain training compliance,” said Megan Hoffman, CTSI Workforce Development Program Manager, Clinical Translational Research Services. “This tool provides the linking and connectivity between U Learn and Moodle in one spot—it works to provide training uniformity across our vast research enterprise. The tool doesn’t add to the training requests, it simply tracks them in one place.”
Create a customized training plan
Clinical research professionals can use the tool to:
- Create their Roadmap, which prescribes a curriculum of required and optional human research training courses customized to their specific research role, tasks, and studies assigned
- View their customized curriculum and whether they are in compliance with the prescribed training.
- Upload their own immunization and certification documents.
Supervisors of clinical research professionals also can use the tool to help manage their research team’s training portfolio. The tool shows supervisors their direct reports’ training courses and credential history. Additionally, supervisors can proxy one of their direct reports, if needed.
Broader release in 2018
Beyond this initial release to clinical research professionals and their supervisors, CTSI anticipates releasing the tool for broad use by Academic Health Center faculty researchers and students in 2018.
The flexible platform was developed by CTSI and is supported through its Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health.
