CTSI’s Office of Discovery and Translation (ODAT) recently hired Angela Fralish for the newly created ODAT Research Fellow position.
As a fellow, Angela will assess the translational potential of technologies under consideration for ODAT support or currently supported through one of six ODAT funding programs, with a particular focus on the recently launched Community Discovery Program for Child Health Innovation focused on development of pediatric medical technologies.
ODAT programs support investigators in the early stages of translational research by giving them the resources and expertise needed to develop discoveries into drugs, diagnostics, and devices. The Research Fellow position will enhance ODAT’s ability to support projects by providing more in-depth support to an increasing number of investigators.
Angela is attending the University of Minnesota Law School as a visiting scholar, and anticipates graduating from the Charleston School of Law in May 2017. Previously, Angela worked as a law clerk, a therapeutic assistant, and a research assistant -- experiences that influenced her overarching career goal of working in medical device commercialization.
“Angela’s experience in law, healthcare, and business combined with her interest in advancing technology to help people live healthier lives aligns perfectly with ODAT's goals,” says Sandra Wells, PhD, ODAT Assistant Director. “Angela will be an excellent addition to our team, and will help strengthen our ability to put promising ideas and discoveries on the path toward improved human health.”
In her role as ODAT Research Fellow, Angela will work closely with investigators, advisory committees and the ODAT team to evaluate new technologies for translational potential and pathways. To do this, she’ll:
- Conduct technical literature reviews.
- Analyze product-market fit using various databases and in-person interviews.
- Evaluate a technology’s intellectual property position.
- Interpret FDA regulatory guidelines to determine potential regulatory pathways.
Angela will be located in the ODAT/Pediatric Device Innovation Consortium (PDIC) office in 717 Delaware.
