The following online, non-credit courses and modules are currently available at no charge to students, faculty, and staff affiliated with the University of Minnesota.

Some of the research courses and modules are offered through the University's School of Public Health, and focus on applications pertinent to public health practice and research. You may be asked to complete a one-time registration process and/or to log in with your University internet (x.500) ID and password in order to access these courses and modules.


Biostats4you
The Biostats4you website provides statistical training and resources for non-statisticians. The site contains  biostatistical training videos and reading materials suited for non-statistician medical and public health researchers, including topics such as sample size calculators, hypothesis tests, and power analysis methods. 

Clinical Research Coordinator Training
The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Online Training Modules train coordinators who support primary investigators and teams that conduct research with human subjects. The comprehensive online training modules help ensure quality research practices, while creating a career development pathway for CRCs. 

Conducting research through an anti-racism lens
A guide for students, staff, and faculty who are incorporating an anti-racist lens at all stages of the research life cycle.

Foundations for Research Professionals
CTSI's Foundations for Research Professionals training program aims to help increase knowledge and application of clinical research coordinator competencies among research professionals at the University of Minnesota. The training has been developed for clinical research coordinators (CRCs) new to research or new to the University of Minnesota (<1 year).

Evidence-Based Practice
This online tutorial is designed for students in healthcare fields, health care professionals, faculty, and anyone interested in evidence-based practice. This tutorial comprises two lessons that cover the 5-step process for evidence-based practice, and a number of case scenarios that allow the learner to apply the process.

School of Public Health Clinical Research Certificate 
The 16 credit certificate program in clinical research is designed for research coordinators, clinical research project managers, and other health professionals who want to learn how to implement and manage clinical research studies. 

Improve Diversity in Clinical Research
Resources to create an equitable clinical research environment from the Multi-Regional Clinical Trial (MRCT) of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University. Includes the Achieving Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity in Clinical Research Guidance Document.

Inclusive Practices for Names and Pronouns in the Classroom
In this course, participants will receive an overview of gender identity, gender expression, and their significance for higher education contexts. Introductory strategies and resources for integrating preferred names and gender pronouns into daily practice will also be covered. This course is intended for academic professionals at the University of Minnesota.

Introduction to Clinical Research Methodologies
This series of online courses provides an orientation for health professions students, fellows, and practitioners to the following aspects of clinical research:

HIPAA Privacy Training
All employees and students must complete both HIPAA and Information Security Awareness training to be considered compliant. This training consists of two separate training courses that you may complete online:

Introduction to Biostatistics: Sampling Mathematics and The Normal Population Distribution
This introductory module covers a few basic mathematics concepts that are central to statistics.

Introduction to Epidemiology
This online training provides an overview of epidemiology, key terms, and examines the role of epidemiologists in public health practice. It includes some case studies and a discussion of how epidemiological studies are related to public health issues.

Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR)
This free online self-paced course, offered through the NIH's Office of Clinical Research, trains physicians, scientists, medical and dental students, nurses, public health officials, and others conducting or planning a career in clinical research on how to effectively and safely conduct clinical research. The course focuses on the spectrum of clinical research and the research process by highlighting biostatistical and epidemiologic methods, study design, protocol preparation, patient monitoring, quality assurance, ethical and legal issues, and much more.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
To become eligible as a principal investigator at the University of Minnesota, you must complete the RCR Core Curriculum. The online workshop addresses basic principles based on key concepts and best practices of research integrity. Topics include: social and professional responsibilities, reporting misconduct, mentoring, authorship, plagiarism, peer review, fiscal responsibilities, intellectual property, and research data management.

A SMART Way to Develop Adaptive Intervention Strategies
This online module is available for those who want to learn about strategies for designing research trials that provide evidence for selecting and/or improving adaptive interventions used in clinical practice.

Successfully Navigating the NIH Study Record
This online resource offers University of Minnesota clinical researchers, grant coordinators, and others a curated collection of NIH instructions that take applicants step-by-step through the completion of the NIH Study Record. Additionally, the resource offers answers to frequently asked questions, tips, and expert opinion about how to complete the Study Record, which is used to collect information on proposed human subjects research, clinical research, and clinical trials.
