The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) welcomes a new group of scholars into Parents Leading Science™, a leadership development program for research-intensive faculty who are also parents.
Building on the success of the Mothers Leading Science™ program, this year’s cohort has expanded to include fathers for the first time. The program supports faculty who identify as a parent of school-age and/or younger child(ren), including those who are lifelong caregivers to children with disabilities by fostering personal and professional growth, building peer networks, and developing leadership skills to advance academic health sciences.
Reflecting the experiences of faculty parents
Parents Leading Science is organized into a unique dual-cohort model that reflects the varied experiences of parenting in academia. One cohort focuses on experiences traditionally associated with motherhood and the other on those traditionally associated with fatherhood.
Known as the Researcher-Mom and Researcher-Dad cohorts, participants take part in a whole-person leadership journey that fosters personal growth, empowerment, resilience, and alignment across their personal and professional lives. The program also includes joint sessions where participants explore shared challenges and opportunities for institutional improvement, creating space for dialogue across parenting experiences and enriching the academic environment for all.
