David Ingbar, MD, of the University of Minnesota’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), has been named as an inaugural 2026 Fellow of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science (ACTS), recognizing his leadership in advancing translational science training and mentorship. ACTS is a national organization representing leaders in translational science across academic medicine.
Ingbar co-leads CTSI’s Research Education, Training, and Career Development (CTSI-Ed) Core, where he has served in a leadership role since 2015. In this role, he helps advance researchers across the career development continuum through mentorship,
educational programming, and efforts to enhance faculty rewards and recognition. Ingbar also serves as Principal Investigator of CTSI’s K12 program, which prepares early-stage investigators for independent NIH K- and R01-level funding.
He was Assistant Dean for Faculty Development and Mentoring in the University of Minnesota Medical School until October 2025 and is Professor of Medicine, with joint appointments in Pediatrics and Integrative Biology and Physiology. He previously served as Director of the Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Division for more than 20 years.
Ingbar’s work spans mentorship, program development, and national service. He has contributed to the broader clinical and translational science community through leadership roles including service on the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Advisory Council and as Past President of the American Thoracic Society.
“David is entirely deserving of this prestigious award. He has played a major role in strengthening translational science training and mentorship at the University of Minnesota,” said CTSI Director Bruce Blazar, MD. “His leadership has helped prepare investigators across career stages and provided mentors with much needed skill sets. This ACTS fellowship reflects both his longstanding commitment to mentorship and his national impact in clinical and translational science.”
The Fellows of ACTS (FACTS) program was launched in 2026 as the premier membership program for individuals who have made substantial contributions to and service within the clinical and translational science field. The inaugural cohort was selected through a competitive process, with 36 fellows chosen from nearly 6,000 ACTS members.
“The Fellows of ACTS program recognizes those whose impact on the clinical and translational science community is undeniable,” said ACTS President Allan R. Brasier, MD. “These fellows embody the values and mission of ACTS for innovation, team science, and community, and their contributions continue to shape the field.”
