Community-academic research partnership honored with inaugural dissemination award

A collaborative project between researchers at the Inspire Change Clinic and Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School received a Dissemination Award at the Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s (CTSI) Symposium and Poster Session.

The project investigated Somali and Oromo awareness of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), developed community-informed educational videos, and evaluated intervention impact on RSV prevention.

With this Dissemination Award, the team will receive $1,500 from CTSI’s community engagement team (CEARCH) to expand their outreach efforts. Initial funding for the project was provided through a Community Health Collaborative Pilot Grant, which addresses the health issues that matter most to Minnesota communities.

"We found it very validating to know that they recognized the potential and value of our work, which has motivated us to continue these efforts,” the research team shared. “We plan to use additional funds from the Dissemination Award to expand our outreach either by hosting larger events or by adding additional community sessions beyond what was originally proposed.”
